Project Accountant – Major Construction Contractor | Brisbane Based
  
An established and growing civil construction contractor is seeking an experienced Project Accountant to join its high-performing finance team.
  
This is a key role supporting the delivery of major infrastructure and rail projects, working closely with Project Managers and senior leadership to ensure strong financial control, accurate reporting, and commercial performance across active projects.
  
The Role:
  
Reporting into senior finance leadership, you will take ownership of the financial management of multiple construction projects, ensuring budgets, forecasts and reporting are delivered accurately and on time.
  
You will be responsible for:
  • Project Financial Management
  • Monitoring and tracking project budgets, costs and revenue against estimates
  • Preparing detailed cost reports, forecasts and variance analysis
  • Ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting across live projects
  • Invoicing & Cost Control
  • Managing contract invoicing processes in line with agreed payment schedules
  • Reconciling invoices, payments and cost reports
  • Analysing labour, materials, subcontractor and plant costs
  • Supporting variations, procurement processes and cost allocations
  • Financial Reporting
  • Preparing monthly Work-in-Progress (WIP) reports
  • Producing cashflow forecasts and project financial statements
  • Supporting company financial reporting and external audits
  • Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Partnering closely with Project Managers and site teams
  • Liaising with clients, subcontractors and suppliers on financial matters
  • Ensuring compliance with accounting standards, tax obligations and internal controls
To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • Degree in Commerce, Accounting or related discipline
  • CPA or CA qualification (preferred)
  • Minimum 10 years’ accounting experience, including 5+ years within construction or rail infrastructure
  • Strong knowledge of project accounting principles, job costing and revenue recognition
  • Proven experience managing budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Experience with Jobpac and/or COINS (highly regarded)
